User data folder

Updated over 2 weeks ago

In TradeLocker (including TradeLocker Studio), the “user_data” folder is a local folder on your computer where the desktop app stores app-specific files needed to run smoothly and keep your workspace consistent.

It typically contains things like local settings and preferences, cached data to speed up loading, logs that record what the app was doing (useful for troubleshooting crashes/freezes), and other temporary/local app state related to the desktop environment and Studio usage. It does not contain your broker/prop firm’s backend account records (balances, executions, or server-side trade history), since those are handled on their side.

When support asks for the user data folder, it’s usually to review logs and local configuration that can explain why Studio or the desktop app is behaving unexpectedly on that specific machine.

Examples of when it makes sense to request the user data folder are cases like the desktop app crashing or not launching, Studio not loading or freezing during backtests, bots stopping unexpectedly, login loops or repeated sign-in prompts in the desktop app, panels/layouts not saving properly, charts or UI elements behaving inconsistently on desktop, or when a user reports persistent performance problems that can’t be reproduced on other devices. In these cases, the logs and local configuration in the user data folder can help identify what’s happening on that specific machine.

The easiest way to send us your user data is from the desktop app: go to Help, then in the dropdown select “Send user data to support”. After the upload completes, you’ll see a unique upload ID. Please copy and paste that ID into this chat so we can locate your report on our side (example: ff752f11-b7aa-4f65-b81a-1ad4264be421).

If you can’t use the in-app option, you can also send the zipped user_data folder instead.

These details are required for our team to investigate your report properly.
